Diffa, the capital of the Diffa region in southeastern Niger, is located on the southern edge of the Sahara Desert and shares a border with Nigeria, making it one of the most important border cities in Niger. The city is located in the lower Niger River basin around the climate of the tropical desert climate, hot and dry throughout the year, the average annual precipitation is less than 300 millimeters. The economy is based on agriculture and animal husbandry, and the surrounding areas are rich in millet, sorghum and livestock. Diffa, as a regional trade center, undertakes the function of cross-border trade with neighboring countries, such as Nigeria, and is especially famous for the trade of livestock, agricultural products and handicrafts. The city is culturally diverse, with Hausa, Tuareg and Kanuri ethnic groups living in the area, and is unique in its crafts such as traditional leather weaving and silversmithing. Despite infrastructural challenges, Diffa remains an important economic and cultural node in the south-east of the Niger, thanks to its strategic location and rich cultural heritage.
Located in the northeastern part of China's Qinghai Province, Haidong City is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Qinghai Province, situated in the transition zone between the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau and the Loess Plateau, with an average altitude of about 2,000 meters. As one of the birthplaces of Huangshui culture, Haidong has a rich historical heritage and diversified ethnic customs, where Han, Hui, Tibetan and Tu ethnic groups live in harmony.
The city takes agriculture and tourism as its economic pillars, producing crops such as rapeseed and wheat, and is famous for attractions such as the Mutual Assistance Tujia Style Garden and the Qutang Temple. The climate is continental on the plateau with cool and pleasant summers, making it an ideal destination for summer vacation travel. With convenient transportation, Haidong is closely connected to Xining, Lanzhou and other cities through the Lanxin high-speed railway and the G6 Beijing-Tibet Expressway.
In recent years, Haidong has been actively developing green industries and eco-tourism, and is committed to creating an important urban node in the eastern part of the Tibetan Plateau, with both cultural heritage and modern development vitality.
