Diffa, the capital of the Diffa region in southeastern Niger, is located on the southern edge of the Sahara Desert and shares a border with Nigeria, making it one of the most important border cities in Niger. The city is located in the lower Niger River basin around the climate of the tropical desert climate, hot and dry throughout the year, the average annual precipitation is less than 300 millimeters. The economy is based on agriculture and animal husbandry, and the surrounding areas are rich in millet, sorghum and livestock. Diffa, as a regional trade center, undertakes the function of cross-border trade with neighboring countries, such as Nigeria, and is especially famous for the trade of livestock, agricultural products and handicrafts. The city is culturally diverse, with Hausa, Tuareg and Kanuri ethnic groups living in the area, and is unique in its crafts such as traditional leather weaving and silversmithing. Despite infrastructural challenges, Diffa remains an important economic and cultural node in the south-east of the Niger, thanks to its strategic location and rich cultural heritage.
Guazapa is a city in the department of San Salvador in north-central El Salvador, about 30 kilometers from the capital, San Salvador. Located in the foothills of the Guazapa volcano, at an altitude of about 400 meters, the city is known for its fertile volcanic soil and coffee cultivation, and is one of the important coffee-producing regions of El Salvador.
Guazapa was an active area for guerrillas during the Salvadoran Civil War (1980-1992) and retains some of its historical sites to this day. The city is surrounded by tropical forests and is dominated by the Guazapa Volcano (1,438 meters above sea level), the slopes of which are suitable for hiking adventures and offer a panoramic view of the San Salvador River Valley.
The economy is based on agriculture, producing coffee, sugar cane and cereals. In recent years, ecotourism has been developing and visitors can experience coffee plantation tours, volcano hikes and rural culture. Local traditional handicrafts (such as pottery) are also quite distinctive. Conveniently connected to the capital via the CA-4 highway, the area is ideal for day trips or in-depth nature exploration.
