Diffa, the capital of the Diffa region in southeastern Niger, is located on the southern edge of the Sahara Desert and shares a border with Nigeria, making it one of the most important border cities in Niger. The city is located in the lower Niger River basin around the climate of the tropical desert climate, hot and dry throughout the year, the average annual precipitation is less than 300 millimeters. The economy is based on agriculture and animal husbandry, and the surrounding areas are rich in millet, sorghum and livestock. Diffa, as a regional trade center, undertakes the function of cross-border trade with neighboring countries, such as Nigeria, and is especially famous for the trade of livestock, agricultural products and handicrafts. The city is culturally diverse, with Hausa, Tuareg and Kanuri ethnic groups living in the area, and is unique in its crafts such as traditional leather weaving and silversmithing. Despite infrastructural challenges, Diffa remains an important economic and cultural node in the south-east of the Niger, thanks to its strategic location and rich cultural heritage.
Fengshun County is under the jurisdiction of Meizhou City, Guangdong Province, China. It is located in the northeast of Guangdong Province, on the middle and upper reaches of the Han River, bordering Fujian Province. With a total area of 2,710 square kilometers and a population of about 700,000, it is dominated by the Hakka people and is a famous hometown of overseas Chinese and old revolutionary area.
Fengshun is rich in geothermal resources and has the reputation of "China's Hot Spring City", with hot springs all over the territory, high water temperature and excellent water quality. The county's forest coverage exceeds 70%, and there are natural landscapes such as Longguizhai Waterfall and Baxiangshan Grand Canyon, which make the ecological environment superior.
As a major town of Hakka culture, Fengshun preserves intangible cultural heritages such as the Dragon House and Hakka mountain songs. The main industries include electro-acoustic appliances, hot springs tourism, and agricultural products processing, etc. The electro-acoustic industry occupies one-third of the national market share and is known as the "Electro-acoustic Capital of China".
Fengshun has convenient transportation, with Shantou-Meizhou Expressway and Meishan-Shantou High-speed Railway running through the whole city. Local specialties include elemi, ginger candy, sweet potato vermicelli, etc. Every year in the twelfth month of the lunar calendar, the grand "Puzhai Fire Dragon" folklore event is held, which is listed in the national intangible cultural heritage.
