Diffa, the capital of the Diffa region in southeastern Niger, is located on the southern edge of the Sahara Desert and shares a border with Nigeria, making it one of the most important border cities in Niger. The city is located in the lower Niger River basin around the climate of the tropical desert climate, hot and dry throughout the year, the average annual precipitation is less than 300 millimeters. The economy is based on agriculture and animal husbandry, and the surrounding areas are rich in millet, sorghum and livestock. Diffa, as a regional trade center, undertakes the function of cross-border trade with neighboring countries, such as Nigeria, and is especially famous for the trade of livestock, agricultural products and handicrafts. The city is culturally diverse, with Hausa, Tuareg and Kanuri ethnic groups living in the area, and is unique in its crafts such as traditional leather weaving and silversmithing. Despite infrastructural challenges, Diffa remains an important economic and cultural node in the south-east of the Niger, thanks to its strategic location and rich cultural heritage.
Located in the southwest of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China, Atush City is the capital and political and economic center of Kizilsu or Kizilsu Kyrgyz Autonomous Prefecture. Located at the southern foothills of the Tianshan Mountains and the western edge of the Tarim Basin, adjacent to Kyrgyzstan, it has a total area of about 16,100 square kilometers and a population of about 250,000 (2020 data), with Uyghurs and Kyrgyz as the main ethnic groups.
Atushi was an important hub of the ancient Silk Road and was historically a center of cultural exchange in the western regions. The area is famous for traditional Uyghur songs and dances, wood carving handicrafts and specialty foods, especially fig cultivation, known as the "Hometown of Figs in China". The main attractions include the ruins of the Karakhan Dynasty, the ancient city of Suwen and other historical and cultural relics.
The city's economy is based on agriculture, producing figs, grapes, apricots and other specialty fruits, while developing border trade and tourism. It has a temperate continental arid climate, and the terrain is dominated by mountains and oasis plains, with an altitude of about 1,200-4,500 meters. In terms of transportation, the G3012 highway and the Kashgar railroad branch line run through the whole territory, and it is about 40 kilometers away from Kashgar Airport.
