Shidian County is located in the western part of China's Yunnan Province, under Baoshan City, on the east bank of the Nujiang River, adjacent to the border with Myanmar, and is a famous historical and cultural town of the Western Yunnan War. The county covers an area of 2009 square kilometers, with a population of about 340,000, inhabited by Han, Yi, Brown, Hui and other ethnic groups, forming a characteristic region of multicultural intermingling.
Shidian has a subtropical monsoon climate, with rolling hills and natural landscapes such as the Nujiang Canyon and the Nuwa Hot Spring. Shidian is one of the "Granaries of Western Yunnan", producing rice, tea and tropical fruits. The famous "Battle of Songshan" took place in the vicinity of Shidian during the war, and there are a large number of war sites and memorials in the area, which is known as the "Land of Heroes".
Shidian has preserved the traditional festivals of ethnic minorities, such as the Brown Jumping Festival and the Yi Torch Festival, as well as unique handicrafts, such as earthenware production and ethnic embroidery. The economy is mainly based on agriculture, but in recent years, it has been vigorously developing cultural tourism and border trade, and the G556 National Highway runs through the whole territory, so the transportation convenience continues to improve.
