Dengfeng is located in the west-central part of Henan Province, at the southern foot of Mt. Songshan, which is one of the important birthplaces of Chinese civilization, and has been known as "in the middle of heaven and earth". Dengfeng is not only the location of Songshan, one of the five sacred mountains, but also home to a number of world cultural heritages, such as the Shaolin Temple, the ancestral home of Zen Buddhism and the birthplace of Shaolin Kung Fu, Songyang Academy, one of the four ancient academies, as well as the Zhongyue Temple, Stargazer's Terrace, and other historical relics. Dengfeng has been the capital city of China since the Xia Dynasty, and has accumulated a rich cultural heritage through many dynasties, with Shaolin Kung Fu becoming an international symbol of Chinese culture. Nowadays, with its unique natural and humanistic landscapes, this thousand-year-old city attracts tourists from all over the world to explore the roots and soul of Chinese civilization.
