Dege County, located in the northwestern part of Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan Province, China, is a historical region centered on Tibetan culture. It is known as "one of the three major birthplaces of Tibetan culture" and is famous for its deep religious and academic traditions.
The Dege Institute of Sutra Printing is one of the most important Tibetan scripture printing centers in Asia, preserving a large number of Buddhist classics and documents, and is listed as a national key cultural relics protection unit. It is also an important place for the transmission of Derge Tibetan opera, thangka painting and traditional Tibetan medicine.
Located on the eastern edge of the Tibetan Plateau, Derge County is blessed with magnificent alpine, grassland and river landscapes, such as the Jinsha River Gorge and the Quel Mountain Natural Scenic Area. Tourism is gradually developing, attracting tourists to experience unique Tibetan style and trekking adventures.
The economy is based on animal husbandry, agriculture and cultural tourism, and the local production of Derge Tibetan paper and handicrafts enjoys a great reputation. Same, the capital of Timor-Leste's Ainaro District, is located about 50 kilometers south of the capital, Dili, in the mountainous interior and is an important agricultural and transportation hub for the country. It is known for its coffee farming, surrounded by terraced fields that produce Timor-Leste's premium Arabica coffee beans. Historically, Samu was an important stronghold during Timor-Leste's War of Independence, and remnants of the resistance movement still remain in the area, attracting history buffs to explore.
