As a transportation hub connecting northern Mozambique with neighboring Malawi and Zambia, Cuamba has a busy road and rail network, and is a key node for regional trade logistics. Economically, Cuamba is agriculturally oriented, producing crops such as cotton, cashews and maize, while the surrounding area is rich in mineral resources, with the rise of the coal mining industry injecting new vitality into the city. The city is a gateway to explore the culture and nature of northern Mozambique, with its mix of Makwa and Yao tribal cultures, traditional crafts and marketplaces.
