Chimbarongo is a city in the province of Cachapoal, in the region of General Oikins Liberator of Chile, located about 120 kilometers south of Santiago, in the heart of the Central Valley. The town is known nationwide as the "Rattan Capital of Chile" for its traditional rattan craftsmanship, in which local residents hand-woven wicker and vines to make furniture, decorative items, and household goods, a skill that dates back to the colonial period. The annual National Rattan Weaving Festival attracts many visitors and serves as an important showcase of local culture. Same, the capital of Timor-Leste's Ainaro District, is located about 50 kilometers south of the capital, Dili, in the mountainous interior and is an important agricultural and transportation hub for the country.
