Charlestown is the capital and main port of the island of Nevis in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, located in the eastern Caribbean Sea. Known for its well-preserved colonial architecture and laid-back island atmosphere, the city is an ideal starting point for exploring the history and natural beauty of Nevis.
Charlestown has a rich historical heritage, including St. John's Anglican Church, built in the 17th century, and the Nevis History Museum. The museum site was once the Hamilton Home, where American founding father Alexander Hamilton was born. The annual Nevis Cultural Festival showcases local music, dance and traditional crafts.
As the commercial center of Nevis Island, Charlestown's economy is dominated by tourism, agriculture and small-scale manufacturing. Visitors can visit the nearby Tropical Botanical Gardens, hot springs sites, or head to Pinetree Beach to soak up the sun. The City Marina is an important stop for yachts and ferries, connecting St. Kitts to the surrounding islands.
