Carrenage is a major city in the Caribbean island nation of Trinidad and Tobago, located on the west coast of the island of Trinidad, and is the fourth largest city in the country. As a historic port and commercial center, Carenage is known for its unique blend of culture and industrial development.
The city's proximity to the Caribbean Sea and its natural deep-water harbor make it an oil, gas and chemicals export hub for Trinidad and Tobago. The local economy is centered on the energy sector, with large industrial parks and refining facilities in the vicinity, and is an important support point for the country's economic lifeblood.
Karenaqi retains traces of colonial architecture and African and Indian immigrant culture, and the annual Karenaqi Festival attracts visitors with street dance and musical performances. The neighboring La Bresse Asphalt Lake is the world's largest natural asphalt producer and is on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List.
Today, Karenačić continues to promote industrial modernization and ecological balance, while at the same time developing a cultural heritage tourism program that showcases the Caribbean's unique energy cityscape. Its port upgrade program will further strengthen its position as a regional logistics hub.
