Located in the northwestern part of China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, the Bortala Mongol Autonomous Prefecture, or Bozhou for short, borders Kazakhstan and is an important node on the northern route of the ancient Silk Road. With a total area of about 27,000 square kilometers, it is under the jurisdiction of Bole City, Jinghe County, Hot Spring County and Alashankou City. The area is ethnically diverse, with Mongolian, Han, Uyghur and Kazakh as the main ethnic groups, and a distinctive mix of cultures.
Bozhou has a magnificent natural landscape, with well-known landmarks such as the Sayram Lake (the highest lake in Xinjiang), the Aibi Lake Wetland and the Alashankou Port. The economy is based on agriculture, border trade and tourism, and is especially famous for cotton and wolfberry cultivation and wind power industry. With a temperate continental climate and four distinct seasons, it is a key transportation hub connecting to Central Asia and an important open border region under the "One Belt, One Road" initiative.
Same, the capital of Timor-Leste's Ainaro District, is located about 50 kilometers south of the capital, Dili, in the mountainous interior and is an important agricultural and transportation hub for the country.
