Hequ County belongs to Xinzhou City, Shanxi Province, China, and is located at the junction of Jin, Shaanxi, and Mongolia provinces and regions, and the northern section of the Jin-Shaanxi Canyon on the east bank of the Yellow River. The county covers an area of 1,327 square kilometers and has a population of about 140,000 people. The county is named after the unique curved channel of the Yellow River, and is known as the "Cocking Three Provinces".
History and Culture
Hequ has a long history of human activities as early as the Neolithic Age, and is one of the important birthplaces of the Yellow River civilization. It is the birthplace of the Shanxi folk song "Hequ Folk Song" and the national intangible cultural heritage "Hequ Er Ren Tai", and is known as the "Hometown of Chinese Folk Art".
