Berane is a historical city in the north of Montenegro, located on the banks of the river Lim and belongs to the administrative center of the northeastern region of the Republic of Montenegro. As the fourth largest city in Montenegro, Berane has a population of about 11,000 and is situated in a basin surrounded by mountains, with a mild climate and beautiful nature.
Berane was first recorded in the Ottoman Empire in the 15th century and was formerly known as "Budomlija". The city retains the remains of Ottoman architecture and Orthodox monasteries, such as the famous St. George's Church.
