Bénakouma is a town in the West Region of Cameroon, located in the southwestern part of the Bamenda Province, in a tropical rainforest climate zone, surrounded by dense forests and rolling hills. The local economy is centered on agriculture, with the cultivation of cash crops such as cocoa, coffee and oil palm, and it is a trading center for agricultural products in the surrounding area. The population is mostly Bamirek, with English and Bamirek languages spoken, and the cultural traditions retain a wealth of tribal practices, such as traditional dances and handicraft making. Despite its relatively simple infrastructure, Benakouma, with its unique location and agricultural resources, plays an important role in the regional economy and is one of the quintessential places to experience rural Cameroon.
