Curaçao is an island country in the southern Caribbean Sea, a constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, with its capital, Willemstad, listed as a World Heritage Site. It is known for its unique "Curaçao style" of architecture, with colorful colonial buildings and the blue waters of the Caribbean Sea. A former trading hub, Curaçao is culturally diverse, with a mix of Dutch, African, South American and indigenous elements. The official language is Dutch, but Pilar (Papiamento) and English are widely spoken. The economy is dominated by tourism, finance and oil refining, and it boasts world-class dive sites that attract a million visitors a year. Its relaxed pace of life and friendly locals make it one of the most attractive destinations in the Caribbean.
