Located in the eastern border region of Sierra Leone, about 300 kilometers from the capital city of Freetown, the city is geographically close to the Guinean border and serves as a regional hub for trade and transportation.
Historically, Lakka's economy has been based on agriculture and mining, with the surrounding area cultivating crops such as rice and cassava, as well as mineral resources such as diamonds. As a landlocked city in Sierra Leone, Lakka plays an important role in trade and commerce connecting the country to neighboring Guinea, but has a relatively limited level of infrastructure and economic development.
Lakka's inhabitants are predominantly Mende and other ethnic groups, and traditional African cultural practices have been preserved. Due to its remoteness, the city is less modernized, but in recent years there have been gradual improvements in basic services such as education and health. The area was also affected by the Sierra Leonean civil war and is now in the recovery and development phase.
