Baode County is located in the northwestern part of China's Shanxi Province, under Xinzhou City, on the east bank of the middle reaches of the Yellow River, across the river from Fugu County in Shaanxi Province. The county has a long history and is an important cultural node in the Yellow River Basin. It is known for its rich coal resources and belongs to the core area of the Golden Triangle of Energy in Jin, Shaanxi and Mongolia.
