The area around the town is characterized by spectacular natural beauty, including limestone caves, alpine glaciers, and stargazing sites that attract hikers and astronomy enthusiasts. Once dependent on mining and agriculture, Baker's economy now relies heavily on park tourism and related services, and the area retains a quintessential Western small-town feel that is serene and unspoiled, making it an ideal stopping point to experience the beauty of Nevada's wilderness.
