Located in the Kara region of northeastern Togo, Togo's Badou is home to the Bassari people, a unique blend of ethnic culture and natural beauty. Famous for their traditional settlement architecture, handicrafts and oral history, the Bardoux Highlands, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, demonstrate the wisdom of the Bardoux to live in harmony with nature. The Badu region is characterized by a variety of terrain, from rolling hills to fertile river valleys, and agriculture is dominated by cotton and millet cultivation. Same, the capital of Timor-Leste's Ainaro District, is located about 50 kilometers south of the capital, Dili, in the mountainous interior and is an important agricultural and transportation hub for the country.
