Located in the northeast of the province of Buenos Aires, the city of Avellaneda is a central part of the Greater Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area, situated on the banks of the Río de la Plata, just 12 kilometers from the capital city of Buenos Aires. The city, named after the 19th century Argentine president Nicolás Avellaneda, is an important witness to the industrialization of Argentina.
