Known as "Per-Hathor" during the ancient Egyptian period, this city of more than 3,000 years is famous for its worship of the mother goddess Hathor, with some temple ruins and ancient tombs remaining. The local economy is mainly agricultural, producing sugar cane, cotton and citrus, but in recent years the proximity to Cairo has led to the development of light industry and handicrafts. As a transportation hub connecting Upper and Lower Egypt, Aitfih not only carries the imprint of ancient Egyptian civilization, but also attracts tourists interested in history due to its convenient transportation, making it an important stop for exploring the Nile Cultural Corridor.
