Atenas (Alajuela) is the capital of Costa Rica's Alajuela Province, located northwest of San José, and is the country's second largest city. Known as the "Mango Capital," the city enjoys a mild climate with an average annual temperature of about 23°C. It is an important agricultural and manufacturing center in Costa Rica, producing mangoes, coffee, and other crops.
