Asla is an inland city in the Tiaret Province of northern Algeria, located in the northern foothills of the Saharan Atlas Mountains, along the traditional trade route connecting Algiers and Oran, and with a long history. The local climate is a transition type between Mediterranean and semi-arid climate, with hot and dry summers and mild winters with little rain. The city's economy is based on agriculture, with an abundance of cereals, olives and grapes, as well as a certain proportion of animal husbandry. Asra retains the typical North African Berber architectural style, and the old town's stone streets and traditional houses show the unique cultural heritage of the region.
