Located on the southern edge of the Sahara Desert in northern Niger and bordering Algeria, Arlit is an important mining town in the country. Famous for its rich uranium resources, Arlit has been a key supplier of uranium to France's nuclear energy industry since the mid-20th century, and mining is still the backbone of its economy.
