As one of the largest cities in Syria, Erek has long been a regional economic and cultural center throughout its history, and despite the damage caused by the conflict in recent years, its unique architectural and human heritage continues to attract the world's attention, and it is now gradually moving towards recovery and reconstruction.
Aparan is a historic city in the northern Armenian province of Lori, about 60 kilometers north of the capital, Yerevan, on the edge of the Armenian plateau, at an altitude of about 1,900 meters above sea level, surrounded by mountains and a pleasant climate. With a history dating back to the 5th century B.C., the city was once an important post on the ancient Silk Road and has preserved a rich cultural heritage, with monuments such as the Church of the Holy Cross (Surp Kach), built in the 7th century, which bears witness to the legacy of Armenian Christian civilization. The local economy is based on agriculture and tourism, and the neighboring Apalan Reservoir is an important source of water and adds to the city's natural beauty.
