Located in Knox County, Maine in the northeastern United States, Appleton is a small rural community with a population of about 1,300. Founded in 1829 and named after early settler Samuel Appleton, the town's history is closely tied to the development of agriculture and forestry.

Sanshan, fully known as Sanshan District in Wuhu City, Anhui Province, is located in the southeast of Anhui Province, on the south bank of the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, and is one of the municipal districts of Wuhu City, which is named after the three hills within its territory, namely Sanshan, Changshan, and Mashan.
