Located in Knox County, Maine in the northeastern United States, Appleton is a small rural community with a population of about 1,300. Founded in 1829 and named after early settler Samuel Appleton, the town's history is closely tied to the development of agriculture and forestry.

Jiangxian County is also "the hometown of Chinese hawthorn", and its specialty "Jiangxian Hawthorn" has big and sweet fruits, which is certified by National Geographical Indication. The local non-legacy culture is unique, and traditional skills such as Jiangxian drum music and paper-cutting have been passed down from generation to generation, showing the profound folklore heritage.
