Located in Knox County, Maine in the northeastern United States, Appleton is a small rural community with a population of about 1,300. Founded in 1829 and named after early settler Samuel Appleton, the town's history is closely tied to the development of agriculture and forestry.
Located in a hilly area, Appleton is surrounded by forests, streams, and farmland, and has a typical rural Maine landscape. The town covers an area of about 92 square kilometers and has a climate with four distinct seasons, attracting visitors with the brilliant colors of the maple leaves in the fall.
