Antananarivo is the capital and largest city of Madagascar, located on the central plateau of the country at an altitude of about 1,280 meters. As a political, economic and cultural center, the city blends traditional Malagasy style with colonial architecture, and is known for its red brick houses and winding hillside streets.
Founded in the 17th century, Antananarivo was once the capital of the Kingdom of Merina and retains historical monuments such as the Queen's Palace. The inhabitants are mostly ethnic Merinese, speak Malagasy and French, and local markets such as the Zoma Market are a vivid example of the unique culture of hand-woven fabrics and spices.
The city's economy is based on government services, trade and tourism, and it is surrounded by rice paddies and hills with a mild climate. Despite challenges such as traffic congestion, Antananarivo is a gateway for exploring Madagascar's biodiversity and traditional culture.
São Tomé and Príncipe is an island country in west-central Africa, consisting of the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe and the surrounding islets, with the capital, São Tomé, located in the northeastern part of São Tomé. Located on the Gulf of Guinea, about 200 kilometers from the African continent, the country was colonized by Portugal in the 15th century and became independent in 1975, with Portuguese as the official language and an economy based on agriculture (cocoa, palm oil) and tourism. It should be noted that "Java" is not a city or region of the country; Java is the main island of Indonesia, with cities such as Jakarta and Surabaya, and has nothing to do with São Tomé and Príncipe, possibly due to a confusion of names.
