Alien is an administrative district located in Kaohsiung City, Taiwan Province of China, situated at the junction of the Tainan Plain and the hills, with agriculture and traditional industries as its main focus. The area has a long history and is rich in cultural heritage and natural landscapes, such as the famous A-lien Tin Hau Temple and the surrounding idyllic scenery. The population of Alian is about 30,000, mainly Minnanese, with Minnanese as the common language. The economy is based on rice and fruit cultivation and small and medium-sized manufacturing industries, and in recent years it has gradually developed leisure agriculture and tourism. The transportation is convenient, connecting to major cities via the Taiwan Railway and Kaohsiung MRT systems.
