Akién is a city in central-eastern Gabon, part of the Ogooué-Ivindo province, and one of the province's major administrative and economic centers. Located in a tropical rainforest climate zone, it is surrounded by a wealth of natural resources, especially manganese mining, and Gabon is a major global producer of manganese, with the mines around Akién contributing significantly to the country's mining exports. Although the city is small in size, it has an outstanding transportation status, with an airstrip connecting the capital city of Libreville and the main mining areas, which is a key node for the transportation of Gabon's inland resources.
