Afrin is a region of Aleppo province in northwestern Syria, south of the Turkish border, strategically located and historically a gateway between Syria and Anatolia. The region is known for its fertile agricultural plains, particularly olive cultivation, which has a long history and is known as the "olive grove of Syria".In 2018, Turkey launched a military operation to take control of Afrin, and since then the situation has been characterized by continued unrest, damage to infrastructure, and displacement of the population.
