Adwa is a historic city in the Tigray region of northern Ethiopia, immortalized by the Battle of Adwa in 1896. The battle, in which Emperor Menelik II of Ethiopia led his army to defeat the Italian colonial army, not only defended the country's independence, but also became a symbol of the anti-colonial struggle in Africa and inspired liberation movements across the continent. Located on a plateau over 2000 meters above sea level, the city enjoys a pleasant climate and is surrounded by historical sites such as the battlefield ruins and the palace of Menelik II. As an important node of Tigrayan culture, Adwa attracts many historians and tourists every year to witness the resilience of Ethiopia's national spirit and the splendor of its history of resistance.
Taiping District is located in the southwest of Liaoning Province, China, under the city of Jinzhou.
