Aberdeen is a city in Harford County, Maryland, United States, situated along the Chesapeake Bay, about 40 kilometers from Baltimore. An important town on the Atlantic coast with a population of about 16,000, it is known for its mild climate and convenient transportation network, with proximity to Interstate 95 and the Amtrak rail line.
Aberdeen is known for the Aberdeen Proving Ground, one of the U.S. Army's oldest weapons-testing sites, established in 1917. The proving ground played a key role in both world wars and remains a center for defense technology research and development. The city houses the U.S. Army Ordnance Museum, which showcases the history of military equipment development.
The economy is dominated by the defense industry, logistics and retail, and the proximity to the Chesapeake Bay promotes fishing and tourism.
